Promise Yourself

Just a poem about my thoughts on the society today

Promise Yourself

Open your eyes
Its time for a new start
A fresh day has risen upon the clouds
Look through the mirror
Carefully paint on a smile
Try not to smudge it with your tears
With being yourself....

When you close that door
Dont forget to wear your mask
Your golden ticket to social inclusion
Proof of your personal existence
Both proud and somber to have earned it,
Gradually walk into the street

Millions of people
Each doing the same thing at a different place
Rushing with the minutes shed by the clock
Where are we all going to?
Who we competing against?
When we dont even have the time to stop and breathe in the essence of life...

You are scared of judgement
You are scared of failing
You feel unappreciated
You feel detatched
You feel misunderstood
But so do they
For emotions are a part of being human

Then why is there so much pain engraved into our names?
What is the reason to this constant emulation?
Why are so many lips smiling while their souls are mourning for freedom?
Why are we living in a World of just black and White?
Have we forgotten the shades of grey?
Blinded by the pressure to survive
While letting our true selfs die...

Life is not about finding yourself, its about creating yourself they say
So you can finally say that I'm...
Hanging diplomas and college degrees on our walls
Hiding behind a social role
But these can only give us the script,
Not the ability to act
How can we define the I when we dont even know who it is?

So please stop dashing with what time has to offer
Or just using it as your escape
No,time wont heal your wounds
But you eventually learn to embrace your sorrow
That no bird can ever fly without falling down first
The only cage around it is fear of falling again
The only key to freedom is fortitude

When the moon alights
Promise yourself,promise me to revive
Burn your masks in your fire of rectitude
Write a poem to the clear midnight air
Whisper to the rain
With no more fearful lies
Say you'll live today
With no more screams to fray...
